Dan Dunn is a painter who paints his environment as he sees and feels it.

Dan Dunn is a painter who paints his environment as he sees and feels it. Working from his personal vision, he joins a long line of artists who, in doing their work, have left us with a clearer and more intimate view of the world.

His training began at the early age of fifteen when he began dreaming, drawing, designing and eventually building boats; boats upon which he sailed, lived and painted. He came to love that way of life. He soon found that he could sell these 'boat pictures' thereby supporting the lifestyle he loved, with compromising either his art or his love for freedom. And so, over the years, he has continued with fewer distractions, his pursuit of understanding light and space, color and form, as it manifests itself in wind and waves, shape and design.

We enjoy Dan's work his rare ability to make a significant statement using a marine format. His technique embodies all the spontaneity and confidence of a painter who knows his subject intimately.

Dan Dunn's paintings are available in selected leading Art Galleries on the east, gulf and west coasts of North America. His works have won many prestigious awards and are included in fine art collections, both public and private.

Please contact us for more information about Dan Dunn's nautical paintings. We are always happy to hear from you! Hello Mr. Dunn. Your paintings are a highlight to look for at the woodcraft art store, Newport, or. Some time back you had several cabin window with stormy sea I adored. Cannot afford but they are kept in a special place in my head whenever things get tough.

Thank You Mrs. Beene

You were a young man when we first briefly met in Boca Raton, Florida at the annual arts and crafts festival and I was a very young new bride. I bought one of your paintings as a birthday present to myself and it still, fifty years later is hanging on my wall. I love the mystery of the ship headed out to sea and into a storm. I would like to know what you painted this one on, it's very heavy and feels like sheet rock or plaster board. Perhaps, if you have time, you could email me at mayfairmagic@yahoo.com and let me know what medium you used and whether at this time I should include it in my homeowners policy! Value unknown presently!~
Thanks,
MJ Mangus

I was wondering if your work is being displayed anywhere in Oregon right now. We bought one of your paintings about 30 years ago and would love to see what your doing now. When we bought our painting it was in an art gallery in Lincoln City, Oregon. Do they sill have your work? I would appreciate the info. Thanks Donna Sanders.

I met you back in the Pensacola days in 1966-67. I dearly loved your paintings, but as a student and classically broke, couldn't afford even a sketch. Returning to Pensacola after graduation and finally with a paycheck, I was able to purchase one of your works. 46 years later, I still love it !! Thanks to the internet for letting me find you. I'm delighted to see you are still pursuing your dreams.

Hi Dan, My name is Mel Diaz and I have two of your paintings both 72X24. The first was purchased at Mary Ola's art gallery in Panama City in 1968 titled "Sunset". I returned to Panama City in 2007 to find that Mary had a new art gallery and was 91 years old and sitting by the entrance of her gallery eating her lunch. It must have been fate. We spoke for a long while and though she did not recall the purchase she remembered the painting. I told her that I was interested in another Dan Dunn but since what she had was more landscapes and not seascapes I started to leave when a UPS truck stopped and delivered a large cardboard roll from your daughter in Pensacola. Mary explained that on occasion she would receive Dan Dunn's from your daughter to sell via the gallery. We opened the roll and found two paintings of which one I purchased. It was that of a Shrimper in rough seas, storm clouds in the distance along with a lighthouse in the background, more northwest than the Florida panhandle. It was 72X24 of which she had told me you no longer painted in that size. Now it hangs in my living room and Sunset hangs in my bedroom. I just came across Mary's obituary. But I have a video and photos of opening that package from your daughter and Mary holding up the just unrolled painting. Would like to keep in touch. Thank you. Mel

I have one of your paintings hanging in my main hall. It's called, "After the Storm", and is painted on a piece of paneling. I believe my father bought it in Nags Head at the Sea Side Art Gallery in the Mid 70's. It has always been one of my favorites and I would like to know the story behind it.

I grew up in Gulf Breeze, Fl. When I was a young girl a neighbor had purchased one of your paintings. It made such an impression on me. Fifty years later I was in a picture frame shop in Pensacola talking with the lady who owned the business and your name came up....she took me up stairs where she had two original pieces, I bought one. I realize these maritime paintings could be on any coast, but I always imagine they are lovely Pensacola Bay!!

(My painting is a sailboat with two masts with light gold colored sails coming near a buoy......I love it!)

I saw Dan Dunn's work at a gallery in GA. Unfortunately, the gallery didn't have anything that would fit the actual space I had to work with so I commissioned a nautical painting from this artist. I was happy with how well Mr. Dunn attended to our requests regarding size and orientation and (very general) content of the picture. I had never commissioned anything before so I was nervous about how it would turn out. I was extremely happy with the result. It now sits proudly above my fireplace. I smile each time I look at it, which is every day.

I remember seeing several of Dan's paintings in a gallery at Bandon, on the Oregon coast a few years ago.
One was quite large and depicted a rescue tug attempting to secure a large commercial barge in a rough storm tossed sea. As a sea kayaker I have struggled through my share of difficult waters but none could compare with the dire circumstances faced by the crews in the painting.

I bought one of your paintings "Tied Off" from the Seaside Art Gallery in 1981. I was fresh out of college on my first job - didn't have furniture or anything. Didn't have any business buying a $795 painting on lay away! I've patterned my family room decor after this painting ever since. Wound up in Oregon 20 years later and gasped at what I was sure was your painting at a Depoe Bay, OR gallery. Sure enough (I thought you only sold at a couple shops (FL and NC?). The store owner told me that you moved to Oregon and offered to call you for me! I said no but think he did anyway - you were at a theatre(?).

I've enjoyed your style through the decades - haven't seen anything else close! My work is a fishing boat tied off, a smaller dingy and a buoy - all in a fog. Would love to hear any stories about this painting. Seems the trawler is from an older time but then there's what looks like a radar dish on top! :-)

My late aunt bought “Off Shore” from Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head in 1987. It is so beautiful and she loved it (so did/do we)! She passed away last year and the estate is now selling it. (I’d buy it myself but my home is too small for a 42” x 57” framed painting!) If you happen to know anyone who may be interested in purchasing it, please contact me (gogamecockz@gmail.com). Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent with the world! -Elizabeth

I'm so glad to make contact with the artist of a beautiful painting that my husband and I bought from you at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Show, time frame--- 1968/1970's?? which is still gracing our walls. The painting is 36" X 24.5" and is called "STORM" with the number B135. The technique you used to apply string throughout the canvas for textured effect is quite interesting. We would like to know how long you used this technique, a beautiful effect which caught our eyes some fifty years ago. We would love to have some history for our son who will be inheriting this painting as he himself is an avid sailor and boat builder and like you, lived on his boat. Also is it possible to obtain the value of the painting today for insurance purposes. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Jean and Bob Tanner, Gwynn's Island, Va.
